Educating our kids to take care of the planet is already part of our daily lives. This task is not only the responsibility of schools, but also of parents.
It is therefore essential to know how to transmit to our children that being sustainable is not a complicated task. And who knows? Maybe if we teach them from an early age and turn these habits into a routine, they will be a better example in the future.
So, today we want to share some basic eco-tips to help you teach the little ones to be conscious and responsible:
- Encourage recycling: separating the different types of waste they generate is very important. Do you dare to go a step further? Reducing and eliminating waste is the key to the future. So is understanding that single-use products (straws or plastic bottles) are not the best thing for the planet. Here’s an idea: make recycling a game and involve the whole family. Who wouldn't sign up for this?
- Food waste is a problem, and a serious one. Teaching them to eat fresh, seasonal and local produce is just as important as educating them to know how to calculate what they need to consume on a daily basis. And what about the leftovers? Yes, we save them for another day and make the most of them.
- Does anyone else get tired of seeing children hypnotized by phones? Doing activities in nature is a good way of distracting them and make them aware of the importance of taking care of the environment.
- Turn off the faucet when not in use! Responsible water use begins in childhood. Shorter showers, not wasting water while brushing teeth and reusing unwashed clothes will help them learn to pay attention to such details.
- Take care of a plant together: watching it grow will connect them with the flora around them. Besides, they will be responsible for a small living being and it will bring them closer to nature.
Values for a more conscious tomorrow
The children of today will be the adults of tomorrow. The planet is facing increasing challenges and educating children about sustainability will be an advantage for them when it comes to making decisions and acting responsibly. Building a better future together allows us to contribute to and create a sustainable tomorrow that we can all enjoy.
